Douglas McCoy is a writer and motivational speaker from Australia who is also known as “the expert at ReCreating yourself and others.” In this interview he talks about his life philosophy and his books.
How did you gain your reputation?
I used to travel the world doing seminars and coaching people on how they could get what they wanted. But I was fairly young and figured I hadn’t really had enough experience in enough areas of life. So I decided to try and ReCreate myself in all different areas of life, so I could speak from authority and experience.., That’s what I did: I have ReCreated myself in so many time. I have succeeded in so many different areas. Those that have really seen my life have said: “You have lived the life of over 30 businessmen in 10 years.” So now I can speak with authority. I can coach and teach people how to ReCreate themselves…. Which is what everyone wants in life, right?
Is that why you wrote 18 books on personal development?
I realised people have a lot of challengers out there, and I have been taught by some of the best on the skills of changing our attitudes and happiness and success in a heartbeat. So I could see so many people need direction and assistance. And I wanted to help others solve their problems where they will let me. I have some sensational techniques to and I can “take people from where they are to where they dream to being”.
What are so of your ReCreation coaching secrets?
You have three choices in life: “Give up, give in or give it all you got.” Which is it going to be for you? You have always been quick to say: “If only…” Well here it is. It’s here now. Are you going to act now, or keep on wishing you knew… Forever?
You write your books so that people enjoy their reading experience. How do you achieve that?
When I was young I couldn’t read or spell, so I hated the very thought of reading. I was so bad that my school teacher actually used to laugh at me. I recall when I was eleven, my school teacher gave me a spelling test and I was so bad at spelling, he broke out laughing and said: “You are such a lovely young man Doug, but you can not spell.
I left school not able to read, or finishing an exam paper. I was so embarrassed when I was asked to read… I would instantly go into a lather of sweat. I would read like a stutterer. It was a terribly traumatic experience to read in front of anyone. I hated reading and would do anything to not have to read.
So I have design my books to help everyone to enjoy reading and benefit so much more than normal black and white books.
I guess that’s what’s reading as book is all about, isn’t it, to comprehend and enjoy as much as you can when you read?
That is so right; people who don’t like reading or are slow at reading, often have such a low comprehension of what they read. So I added the bright coloured cartoons with jokes and humour to my books. We all know the well-published fact that: “A picture paints a thousand words.” So funny cartoons help you to remember so much better. That is why I have written my books and then gone through them designing funny cartoons to relate to the message.
But your books are for everyone, not only just for people who don’t like or enjoy reading…
That is absolutely correct. My books suit both right and left brain readers. What has been discovered is that left brain people enjoy reading and are more analytical and enjoy studying more. Whereas the right brain people are more artistic and creative and so many of them don’t enjoy reading. We all have some left and right brain in us, just at different levels. So it doesn’t mean right or left people are smarter than each other, they just have different strengths and interests. But we have found the bright exciting colours I have placed through my books stimulate both right and left brain readers.
So what you are saying is that everyone’s mind will be stimulated and enjoy their reading experience much more than the old style black and white type books everyone else writes ?
That’s the fact and it is so logical, isn’t it? We all like seeing bright coloured pictures and funny cartoons as they add the spice to life and certainly the enjoyment to reading.
Thank you for your time.
You’re most welcome.
