UNESCO Peace Concert in Bangkok

On Friday, March 22, 2013, KPIS International School in Bangkok organized in its state-of-the-art auditorium “Human Rights: Different People, Same Rights,” a concert for peace under the banners of UNESCO, ECPAT, Human Rights, World Foundation, KPIS Student Council, and Make it Big. The program included performances by the school’s choir and band; speeches by students, and a book signing of The Ironman. A Play.

The concert was the brainchild of James Stadtler, an American from California, who wanted to raise money for ELPIS School in Mae Sot in northern Thailand, to raise awareness about the commercial sexual exploitation of children, and to encourage people to live a sustainable life.

The concert was honoured with the presence of Darryl R.J. Macer, the Director of the International Peace and Development Ethics Center (Eubios Thailand) and Alin Horj, a Research Fellow from the same institute.

The International Peace Park at Kaeng Krachan in Thailand was also on the discussion list. The park, which is also the International Center for Peace and Development Ethics, was inaugurated in late 2012 at the time of the 5th UNESCO Youth Peace Ambassadors Training Workshop (YPAS). This conference saw the participation of 100 representatives from around the world who planted 400 trees in the Peace Park.

As this is a community project, anyone can join in. So, if you want to plant your own trees or flowers, you’re most welcome to do so. Also, if you see that any part of the garden is a bit dry, you can turn on the sprinkler system.

The park also has 20 plaques in English and Thai with messages selected from those sent by the youth around the world. The plaques were unveiled at the opening of the Peace Park.

The International Centre for peace and Development Ethics is an independent body with cooperation agreements with many international NGOs, including Eubios Ethic Institute, which has had its main office in Bangkok since 2005.

The objectives of the center are to provide a forum for discussion about bioethics and environmental ethics; to collaborate in public health activities ; to provide a meeting place for people around the world; to motive people to live a sustainable life; and to create an international base for education of peace and sustainable development.

The park is located at 19 Moo 12, S0i 31, Kaeng Krachan, less than 10 minutes from the Thai Diamond Land resort in Phetchaburi Procince, about 150km southwest of Bangkok. Before your visit, you can contact Ananya Tritipthumrongchok, the General Manager, at 0818705959 or via email at ananya[at]eubios[dot]info.
