With the recent success of Saysunee Jana, a Thai fencer who won gold in the épée event at the Paralympics Games in London, fencing in Thailand will definitely see a boom in the following years.
The Amateur Fencing Association of Thailand (AFAT) organizes Thailand’s Open Fencing Championship 2012 between September 6 – 11.
The competition takes place at Island Hall on the 3rd floor of Fashion Island on Ramintra Road in Bangkok.
The official opening ceremony will be held at 4pm on Friday, September 7.
Sixteen countries will participate in this international championship: Brunei, Canada, China, Great Britain, Hong Kong, India, Iraq, Italy, Kuwait, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Chinese Taipei (Taiwan), United Arab Emirates, USA and, of course, Thailand.
A total of 33 Thai clubs will send their best fencers to Fashion Island in the hope of winning a medal and a trophy.
Also, there are 226 foreign representatives ready to participate in the championship.
Both men and women fencers will compete in the sabre, foil and épée categories.
The individual events will take place between September 7-9.
The team events will be held on September 10 and 11.
At the end of each day, the winning fencers will be awarded their prizes in the categories and events scheduled for that day.
The fencing championship will be a great photo opportunity for professional and amateur photographers.
