Carl Heaton is a product designer and entrepreneur who has been calling Thailand home for more than a decade. He is now leading the product design for True VWORLD and loves building teams. He is well known in Bangkok for Web Courses Bangkok, a learning hub for entrepreneurs.
1. I’d like to begin our discussion by asking you how has Thailand changed in terms of business environment and business opportunities over the last decade?
2. I first met you through your school, Web Courses. I was in the process of redesigning my website and needed some help strategizing its look and brand. What was the vision of Web Courses Bangkok when you first started?
3. And, over time, how have things changed in these strange times we live in.
4. In our website design strategy session at your headquarters in Bangkok you put a lot of emphasis on user experience and user interface. What’s the connection between the two? What should a web designer have in mind?
5. What are the top qualities of a successful UX/UI designer? What about perfectionism?
6. Is there money still in this field? How would you advise a young graduate to approach this field?
7. Let’s talk now about your new role as Head of Product Design for True VWORLD. What does the job entail?
8. I’d like to switch a bit the focus of our discussion to the interaction between websites and social media platforms. Do you think websites are slowly becoming obsolete?
9. In China we have WeChat which is an app that basically combines everything that’s out there. You can have a YouTube-like channel, Tik Tok short, Instagram and Facebook feeds, instant messaging, blogs, interactive restaurant menus, epay features, shopping links etc. Do you think this could be the future of online information dissemination? Elon Musk intends to do something similar at Twitter with his Everything App idea.
10. Advice for new fathers.
