Kamonnart “Ung” Ongwandee is a 21-year-old freelance illustrator and fashion design student who has recently designed the pattern for a renowned Thai fashion brand. She studies at the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. She blogs at vanillawalk.org.
In an interview for Guru (Vol.7/No.32, Aug 10-16, 2012) she confessed that, “To me, art is the expression of my imagination and what’s happening in my head. It’s like I don’t know where to store my thoughts if I couldn’t express them through art. My inspiration comes from things in everyday life. I like to question things, constantly seeking explanations for everything that happens.”
I was pleasantly surprised to see that, if one replaced the word “art” with “writing” in the quotation above, you’d get a perfectly valid statement even from a writer’s point of view. After all, writers are also artists who use words instead of colours to send out their message to the public.
Do you agree? Can you replace the word “art” with any other word and still stay true to Kamonnart’s intended meaning?
art and writing is the same thing to me. One cannot exist with others as often my inspiration from art comes from a single word, phrase, or a piece of writing. Thank you for mentioning anyway 🙂
